The Minnesota Youth in Music Championships were held at US Bank Stadium on Saturday, October 14 with the Hastings High School Marching Band participating in the Class A side of the competition with 12 other schools. Hastings claimed the top spot in the competition with their performance entitled “Three Wishes”.

Hastings performed against 12 other high schools in the Class A division: Hutchinson, Maple Grove, Eisenhower, Mankato, Andover, Harrisburg, Lourdes, Blaine, Minnetonka, Anoka and Coon Rapids.

The other classes, AA, had seven schools, AAA had six and AAAA had six. The winners of each division plus the six best scoring bands across all divisions that did not win performed a second time that began at 7:30 p.m.

Hastings was the only Class A team to compete in the final session where they took tenth overall against schools that are much larger. Rosemount claimed the top spot overall as well as Class AAAA title.

The scoring for the Class A portion of the event had Hastings first with a score of 74.800. Eisenhower HS scored 68.400 for second place and third place went to Mankato Area Lancers with a score of 68.150.

This is the second consecutive Class A title for the Hastings Marching Band. Hastings also won awards for Best Percussion, Best Winds and Best Visual Captions. The band is directed by Emily Chandler, Tom Wentzler, Josh Walstrom, Grace Bauer, Zack Anderson and Jake Bohlken.

Congratulations to all involved! You made Hastings proud!
