Boys Tennis prepares to wrap up regular season

The boys tennis season is one of the shortest seasons for high school sports, and that wraps up this week for Hastings with their final regular season match being a makeup match against Lakeville South at home on May 8 at 4 pm. Last week, the boys had three matches, Tartan, Two Rivers and Rosemount.
“It was good against Tartan, we had a good lineup and a good start at singles one and three and four spots in particular, we had a little bit stronger singles lineup than them and so that's something that we've had super often this year. We've been competitive in a lot of matches, but it's been more so with doubles that are lower in the lineup. It was fun to have one where, from the start, even higher up we kind of had a little bit of a jump on it and that's always good. That's good because then, kind of top down you have a little bit more talent, maybe a little more depth as well, so, it's a good feeling. They played solid, a couple of guys that didn't play as well. The first set came around a little bit in the second set and six one a pretty solid win there and it's good, that type of stuff, build a little confidence,” said head coach Alex Zuzek.

Hastings then played host to Two Rivers on a day that it had rained quite a bit, and rain is not something tennis players mess around with, the courts become far to slippery when wet.
“It's a little bit of a surprise that we're getting it in here. I think if we had to go Two River, it would not have happened. Their head coach sent me a text around 1:30 that it was raining again. Actually during most of our squeegeeing it was sprinkling here,” laughed Zuzek.

With the regular season ending, Coach Zuzek will head to Two Rivers this Friday for the section seeding meeting. There are 13 teams in the section, so it will be set up as a 16-team bracket with the top three teams receiving byes. Zuzek was not certain where Hastings could end up in the section, of course he would like to get a home match, but given they will likely seed somewhere in the middle of the section, they may not get that.
The next few weeks for Hastings will be supporting the B squad with some tournaments there and prepping for team and individual sections. We’ll be sure to post updates online at www.hastingsjournal.news as well as our social media channels once the seeding comes out Friday night.
