To the editor:
As a proud Hastings ISD 200 nutrition staff member and a union steward of SEIU Local 284, I'm excited to support Jen Fox for House District 41B. One of the biggest reasons for my support is that Jen will help maintain the DFL majority that passed excellent legislation like the much-loved Universal Free Meals bill.
This legislation has made an incredible difference in the lives of our students, and as a nutrition staff member, I have experienced it firsthand. It takes so much stress off the parents financially and takes away the embarrassment from kids who had to say, "We can't afford lunch." No kid should have to go through that.
I also love the legislation because of my experience with the program. I was constantly stressed about keeping my credit card on file to ensure my daughter had enough food. That stress is now gone.
My daughter also likes to get to school early to eat breakfast with her friends and socialize. She loves spending time with them, and I know she is getting a good meal. I chose my job to see my kids and work around their schedules, and I am happy to see them benefit from the Universal Meals passed by the DFL Majority.
I know electing Jen Fox will help keep the DFL majority, which makes our schools more equitable and supportive places for all students, and that's why I'm proud to stand with them.
