Ginger Lee Christian, 42, Frontenac, was charged in Dakota County on March 30 with felony financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult – depriving property or resources over $5,000.
On Feb. 11, 2022, an investigator with the Hastings Police Department was assigned to a case surrounding a vulnerable adult woman residing in an assisted living facility in Hastings. No payments were made to the facility for the woman’s living expenses and the facility was owed $8,851.60 as of February 2022.
The vulnerable adult’s daughter, Ginger Christian, had been contacted by the facility on several occasions for payment. In November 2021, Christian told the facility that she would begin making the monthly payments. On Feb. 11, 2022, payment was still not received by the facility and a termination of lease due to non-payment was issued, resulting in Christian’s mother losing her housing.
Bank records obtained during the investigation found Christian listed as the owner on her mother’s bank account. Christian spent over $6,000 of the Social Security money on items not related to her mother’s care from July 2021 through January 2022. According to the complaint, Christian stated that she did not know she wasn’t supposed to be using the Social Security funds for herself and that she didn’t know she needed to pay the assisted living facility. A court summons was issued.
