A World Traveler Finds a Business and a Home in Hastings

Perhaps you’ve seen and purchased “Growing Blue Flowers” products in stores, at craft shows, Conferences, and in the Hastings Family Chiropractic building. Growing Blue Flowers is a line of body care items based on 100% natural ingredients. The creative “mixologist” behind GBF is Ms. Estella Yeung, newly moved to Hastings not too long ago.

Estella’s life story is one of traveling, exploration, lifelong learning, and adventure. It’s as if her life experiences have been woven into her products and her knowledge. It all began in Hong Kong, the place of Estella’s birth in 1956, where elements of Taoism and Buddhism have influenced her. It was the love of languages and cultures that lured Estella to move to Europe where she lived for 9 years. While there, she learned languages and then worked within tourism and hotel industries in the Swiss Engadine Region. During this time, learning and taking in the European culture, Estella started to understand the integration of different cultures. It also brought her close to nature, and she started to see and understand the similarities in East/West cultures and that we are not so different from each other.

Estella spent 11 years in California, studying holistic health, herbs, various forms of natural healing, and hypnotherapy, which only made her want to learn and understand more.

But it was in coming to Minnesota in 1995 that Estella got to savor the four seasons, and the down-to-earth people of the north. She made deep friendships, and had more traveling in the Midwest. One of the important lessons learned during that time was to ask herself, “Where do I come from? Where am I at? Where am i going?”.

Eventually, Growing Blue Flowers came to be in 1998, combining traditional knowledge from East and West healing. Estella started infusing oil with herbs, then strained the oil-herb mixture, creating salves for different conditions. She has also developed mist sprays, insect repellants, solid perfumes, balms, lotions, foot creams, eye creams, and so many more inventive and purposeful products. Estella uses 100% natural ingredients and essential oils in her creations. Curiosity led Estella to make soaps with buffalo tallow and later, muscle rubs made with herbs
and buffalo tallow and body butter. Estella is learning more about the healing benefits of buffalo tallow and bear fat.

Estella sees the future of her work and her product line as continuing to enhance the health and wellbeing of others. Growing Blue Flowers is not just a business for her, but a passion. Growing Blue Flowers sums up Estella’s life experiences; languages, cultures, storytelling, and being grateful for the gifts of nature , sharing all of this with others. Estella and Hastings make a perfect match of a lovely river town, rich in history, and a person who appreciates all that Hastings has to offer, not only from it’s past, but well into the future.

Welcome Estella Yeung, and Growing Blue Flowers to your new home town.
