Hastings High School is proud to announce that Trey Beissel and Ellie Magnus are the recipients of the 2025 Athena and Apollo awards.
These annual awards are given to the outstanding athletes, one male (Apollo) and one female (Athena), in the senior class. Consideration is given based on excellence and accomplishments in both individual and team sports, throughout the duration of the student-athlete’s career. Consideration is given to both one-sport and multi-sport athletes. The award is an athletic award, with other accomplishments like leadership, character, and GPA included but secondary. Trey and Ellie were selected by a vote of all HHS head coaches.
Trey Beissel has earned six (6) varsity letters as a participant in football and wrestling. In wrestling he is a two-time captain, five-time all-conference, four-time individual section champion, two-time MSHSL state finalist and one-time individual MSHSL state champion. He holds school records for wins in a career (250), takedowns (1000) and wins in a season (55). He is a three-time individual champion at the prestigious MN Christmas Tournament and a two-time champion at the renowned Bi-State Tournament. During his career, the Raiders wrestling team is five-time section champions and were the 2023 MSHSL Class AAA team state champions. Trey plans to attend the University of Minnesota where he will wrestle for the Gophers.
Ellie Magnus has earned ten (10) varsity letters as a participant in soccer, basketball, and track and field. In soccer she is a two-time captain, all-conference and voted most improved. In track and field, she is a two-time captain, earned 13 all-conference awards in six different events, is a nine-time conference champion and holds two conference records. She has qualified for four MSHSL state meets across multiple individual and relay events, is five-time all-state, three-time academic all-state, and is a six-time School Record Holder (100m, 200m, four-time 100, four-time 200, four-time 400, coed four-time 400). She is involved in FCA (Huddle Captain), Link Crew, National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. She maintains a 4.0 GPA and was the HHS recipient of the MSHSL ExCEL Award. Ellie plans to attend the University of South Dakota where she will run track for the Coyotes.
The Athena Award winner in particular is honored at the St. Paul Athena Banquet in April. The Apollo and Athena winners will both be honored at the Raiders Sports Awards recognition event at Hastings High School in May.
