Raider swim team starts strong

The Hastings Raider boys swim team won its first home meet against South St. Paul 83-61 on Thursday.

“It was great to start our dual meet season. It was nice to give our JV kids a chance to swim varsity right out of the gate,” said coach Katie McAlpin.

The Raiders won seven of 12 events.

“Swimmers of the meet were Sammy Green and Oscar Green. Sammy had four best times. He cut five seconds in the 200 individual medley and two seconds in the 100 breaststroke. Oscar had three best times. He cut 13 seconds in the 20 freestyle, 8.5 seconds in the 100 freestyle, and six in the 100 freestyle on a relay,” said McAlpin. “Diver of the meet was Jack McAlpin. Jack dove really well in his first dual meet ever.”

Other notable shoutouts - 

Kenrick O'Donnell cut three seconds in the 500 freestyle. 

Thomas Foss cut seven seconds in the 500 freestyle.

Alex Culp swam the 500 freestyle for the first time ever.

Jaren Kihima cut three seconds in the 100 butterfly. 

Jack McAlpin cut six seconds in the 100 backstroke and 3seconds in the 100 freestyle on a relay.

Cody Stewart cut three seconds in the 100 freestyle. 

The Raider Swimming and Diving Team competes Thursday, Dec. 21 against Simley at The Grove Pool.
