The Cross-Country season has the fewest true competition days of all the fall sports, but it lasts nearly as long as the fall season allows. The State Meet will be held Nov. 4 at the U of M’s Les Bolstad Golf Course and Hastings is being led by two Sophomores, Linnea Ronning and Tristan Herbst.
At the latest competition, the Simley Invitational held on Oct. 7, both Herbst and Ronning finished second overall, and both were bested by a runner from East Ridge. Herbst fell to senior runner Nathan Schultz by 45 seconds and Ronning fell by 2.7 seconds.
For the girls as a team, Woodbury took first with a 33, East Ridge took second with a 77 and Hastings took third with an 87.
On the boys’ side, East Ridge took first with 50 points, Woodbury was second with 68 points and Hastings third with 101 points.
The top two teams of six runners each at the section race qualify for State as a team. Outside of the top two teams, the next eight best runners not part of the top two teams also go to state as an individual. That means each section sends a total of 20 runners to the state tournament.
Tuesday, October 17 the Raiders will run for the conference championship at 3:00 p.m. at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, then Sections on October 26 at Valleywood Golf Course in Apple Valley, time to be determined.
