The high school activities calendar is packed full of opportunities for students to try so many wonderful things. Choir, theater, band, clubs and athletics just to name a few. But what happens when a student is both an athlete and musician and those two aspects have performances on the same night and on the same field? Raider junior Elliot Renneke answers that.

You perform the halftime show with one of the best marching bands in the state in your football uniform.

The Raider football team played host to Mahtomedi on Thursday night where Renneke is a lineman. During the halftime show, the Raider marching band, where Renneke is a trombone player, performed their field show. Just like an offense and defense needs all of their players on the field, so does the marching band. The position that Renneke plays with the band would have left a hole as large as a missing lineman would leave.

The best part of the performance was the majority of the Raiders coaching staff stayed on the field apron to support Renneke and they did not go to the locker room until he did, high fiving him and telling him great job as he ran to the locker room to catch up with the instructions there. He had the full support of his band instructors to stay in his football uniform knowing the time it takes to make the uniform change.
