To the editor:
I am so tired of people causing division and disunity in our town. They will not hesitate to outright lie and accuse innocent people of the misdeeds they themselves are doing. The latest chapter is to accuse good honest people of being “bought and paid for” by “big conservative terrorists” who want theocracies and Nazi book-burnings and more outlandish and absurd conspiracy theories. There have been NO requests for book-banning. Only requests that books that are not age-appropriate not be available to students without their parents’ consent.
I have been seeing signs that say “Trust Teachers’, usually near signs for Matt, Matt, Mariah, and Brandy. Why should we be told to automatically trust teachers when some cannot be trusted because they are trying to manipulate students into their way of thinking and/or are hiding things from parents? Teachers should also trust parents. After all, parents are the ones who know their children best.
Having taken time to talk with the candidates Philip Biermaier, Nancy Blanchard, Melissa Millner, and Jenny Wiederholt-Pine, I believe strongly that they are good innocent people, trying to do what’s best and good for our students and teachers. They don’t deserve this muckraking. They deserve our support to stop this drama and get back to good business for our school district. That is why I will proudly be voting for Phil, Nancy, Melissa and Jenny for the Hastings School Board.
