Hastings is a town that loves its high school sports. Once a Raider, always a Raider echoes through the town. Our love of sports starts at an early age, and that is especially true with Hockey. Kids learn to skate right up there with learning to walk sometimes, and the Hastings Hockey Association wants to help with that. Skating, not walking.
The Learn Hockey program, known as Termites or MiniMites, is a free program for both boys and girls Pre-K to third grade. They even have free equipment rentals available. The program begins in November and ends in March with 50-minute practices happening on Saturdays.
At this level, kids will play various games that help them learn how to move on the ice, begin to use their edges and teach them different skating techniques all while having fun. The intention is to make it so fun; they do not realize they are working on skating skills.
