The twentieth running of The Clash tournament in La Crosse, Wisconsin took place last weekend. The Clash is a 32-team tournament with the top teams from Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa competing. The Raiders were one of the 32 and they placed second overall.
Hastings started the tournament facing Marian Central Catholic from Sterling, Illinois and easily defeated them 54-14, moving on to round two. In round two, they faced Washington, Illinois, defeating them 54-17, moving on to face Iowa’s number one ranked team, Waverly -Shell Rock, defeating them 33-21 to take first place for the first day of the tournament.
Day two was just as intense as day one with Hastings facing Joliet Catholic from Illinois, defeating them 41-24. The Raiders went on to face Bettendorf, Iowa, winning 35-25 and finally one of the toughest teams in Minnesota, St. Michael -Albertville (STMA). STMA was last year’s MN State Champion and they defeated this years Raiders 46-21 to win the Clash Championship. Hastings finished second in the tournament; an excellent job done by all.
The Raider ladies also went to La Crosse to join in on the fun and they performed well. Here are the finishes by place for the girls. Skylar Little Soldier -first, Annabel Norquist -third, Ivy Brandenburg -fourth, Trinity Yates -fourth, Amelia Miller -sixth, Isabel Fritz -sixth, Katelyn Markworth -sixth, Maddy Radspinner -sixth, Jolie Pettit -sixth, Allison Weinzettel -sixth, Gavyn Hanson -seventh, Lauren Whitfield -seventh.
The Raiders return to the local scene this week hosting a triangular on Thursday, January 12 at 5:00. Two Rivers and St. Thomas Academy come to town, then they travel to Farmington for a dual on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
