Jennifer J. Nye, 44, Hastings, was charged in Dakota County District Court June 9 with felony burglary in the first-degree assault, felony assault in the second-degree with dangerous weapon, and gross misdemeanor obstructing legal process with force or violence or threat thereof. On June 8, officers were dispatched to a home on Second Street West in Hastings.
Upon arrival, officers saw three men and one woman on a porch. The woman, Nye, was directed out into the yard with an officer. The male victim was wearing a bloody tank top that was soaked on his back. He showed officers the knife which had caused the wound in his back. According to the complaint, the victim had previously worked with Nye at a bar. Several days ago, he ran into Nye at a bar, invited her back to his residence where allegedly smoked smoked marijuana. The victim stated this was the extent of their contact and he had not invited Nye to return to his house.
The victim stated that Nye was in his residence when he returned home around 9:20 p.m. When he walked inside, Nye came out of the victim’s bedroom holding a fillet knife. She started shouting things that didn’t make sense, pointing the knife at the victim and said, “I’ll cut your (expletive) heart out.” Nye appeared to be under the influence of drugs. The victim turned from Nye to leave and she said, “If you take one more step, I’ll stab you.” The victim felt a sharp poke in his back, saw he was bleeding and went to his neighbor’s residence where they called 911.
The neighbors corroborated that the victim came to their house and that Nye followed him onto their porch carrying a knife. She eventually gave one of the neighbors the knife. The neighbors were also able to provide video from their Nest camera showing what occurred on the porch.
Nye resisted arrest but was eventually cuffed and placed in the back of a squad car. She was yelling and screaming things that did not make sense, including accusing the victim of raping her and recording her children on camera. She also claimed that the victim had invited her to live with him. Nye stated that she went into his house because she heard a bell ringing and thought someone needed help. She also admitted that she “poked” him. Nye was booked into the Dakota County Jail.
