Hastings girls tennis put together its strongest stretch of the season last week, bouncing back from losses to South St. Paul and Simley with consecutive victories over Farmington and North St. Paul.
The Raiders opened the stretch Sept. 3 at South St. Paul, where the Packers swept the dual 7-0. Hastings was unable to pick up a match victory, though the No. 2 doubles team of Nolee Kochendorfer and Andee Kochendorfer pushed Tessa Gorman and Kalia Buckmaster in the second set before falling 6-2, 7-6.
In singles, Emery Hedeen fell to Annie Spreigl 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1, while Maelyn Kirk lost 6-1, 6-1 to Grace Spreigl at No. 2. Samantha Seaman was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Mira Gross at No. 3, and Evy Hogan fell 6-0, 6-3 to Audrey Schultz at No. 4.
South St. Paul also swept the three doubles positions. Libby Meyer and Liberty Felton defeated Sophia Johnson and Annie Majeski 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1. Tara Gorman and Abby Satre topped Megan Sieben and Briella Bauer 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
The Raiders returned to action Sept. 8 at Simley and came much closer, with all three Hastings victories coming in doubles during a 4-3 loss.
Sophia Johnson and Samantha Seaman earned a three-set victory at No. 1 doubles, defeating Maisey Tormoen and Isabel Tix 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. Annie Majeski and Andee Kochendorfer won at No. 2 doubles, beating Gaona Vang and Sarai Acuna 6-2, 7-6. Megan Sieben and Nolee Kochendorfer completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Elena Raykov and Harlow Klingner at No. 3.
Simley claimed all four singles matches. Emery Hedeen lost to Makenzi Ries 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, while Maelyn Kirk fell to Isla Feldman 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. Evy Hogan played the closest singles match of the dual at No. 3, taking Leedia Xiong to three sets before falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Josephine Winther defeated Briella Bauer at No. 4 in the reported result.
Hastings turned things around the following afternoon, sweeping Farmington 7-0 on Sept. 9.
Hedeen picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Alivia Lazaretti at No. 1 singles, and Kirk defeated Addie Burggraaff 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Hogan went three sets against Kate Morehead at No. 3 before earning a 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 victory. Nolee Kochendorfer completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Hana Wade at No. 4.
Johnson and Seaman also needed a deciding score at No. 1 doubles, defeating Eliana Elvestad and Kylie Goodreau 6-3, 1-6, 10-8. Majeski and Andee Kochendorfer won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2, while Sieben and Harriet Johnston took the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-3.
The Raiders followed the Farmington sweep with another convincing performance Sept. 10, defeating North St. Paul 6-1.
North St. Paul earned its lone victory at No. 1 singles, where Lindsey Lam defeated Hedeen 6-4, 6-1. Hastings claimed everything else.
Kirk defeated Jocelyn Yang 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, Hogan swept Amelia Finch 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, and Andee Kochendorfer defeated Chueka Yang 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.
The Raiders were especially dominant in doubles. Johnson and Seaman defeated Patawglee Thao and Audrey Heaser 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. Majeski and Briella Bauer swept Meetii Amsalu and Keerataya Xiong by the same score at No. 2, and Sieben and Nolee Kochendorfer completed another 6-0, 6-0 sweep against Leay Tesfay and Rayaan Ahmed at No. 3.
The two victories gave Hastings back-to-back dual wins after the Raiders had entered the week with losses in their previous two contests. Through the North St. Paul match, Hastings was 3-5 in completed duals this season.
Hastings is scheduled to host Mahtomedi at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, before traveling to Hill-Murray at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Raiders return home to face Apple Valley at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, and Two Rivers at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24.
