“We were the sixth seed playing the third seed,” explained Head Coach Marissa Welch. “We had lost to East Ridge earlier in the year with Claire in the lineup, and because my lineups for sections had already been submitted with Claire at the number one position prior to her injury - everyone had to move up a spot and I filled the fourth singles position with one of our alternates, freshman, Sophia Johnson. Sophia has been an integral 'yes' player throughout this season. She was a bubble player, getting some varsity time, but mainly JV time due to our low numbers, but anytime a varsity player was sick or injured and I reached out to Sophia, she was a yes! with no hesitation. She always stepped up and gave her positions her best effort! Can't ask for anything more than that from a coaching standpoint. We went with the same lineup as we played against Woodbury as it was our most competitive. East Ridge went with a double’s strong lineup, and that is a solid play against our singles strong roster. Our girls competed, but East Ridge fulfilled their top seed and advanced on to the semi-finals!”
The team aspect is over for the Raiders but, individual sections is still on the calendar starting Oct. 13.
