Girls swim and dive honors seniors, defeats South St. Paul

The girls swim and dive team played host to the South St. Paul Packers during homecoming week. The Packers numbers are down a bit this year which can really amplify losses against bigger teams like Hastings. The Raiders have more than double the swimmers over South St. Paul.

Hastings jumped out to the early lead and expanded on that lead throughout the night winning easily 8967.

“We also honored our seniors at their last home dual meet,” explained Head Coach Katie McAlpin. “We have four seniors this year: Emma Carter, Ava McNamara, Shannon Olsen and Chloe Robinson. Swimmers of the meet were Emma Carter and Kira Aarness. Emma had a season best time in the 50 free by 1.2 seconds and a lifetime best time in the 50 breaststroke. She also had a second and third place finish in her varsity events. Kira also had season best times in the 100 breaststroke, 200 IM and won both of her individual events.”

The Raiders are poised to do well in the section meet and should send several athletes to state as individuals this year. They have their final dual meet this Thursday, October 13, against conference rival Simley at 6:00 p.m. then they host True Team diving Friday at 6:00 p.m. and True Team Swimming Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
