Dance Team Finishes Third in Jazz and Fourth in Kick at Conference Championships.

High school dance team Conference Championships are handled a little differently from the rest of high school sports. The regular season competitions all add up to be part of the Conference Championships total scores. That means, you need to perform well all season long to have a shot at the overall championship for each type of dance, Jazz and High Kick. In their inaugural season, the Raiders Dance Team did well enough to earn fourth place in the High Kick category and third place overall for Jazz which is no small feat.
Head Coach Kayla Sohn broke some great news regarding the team’s first year.
“We also won the sportsmanship award which was voted on by all the teams in each competition throughout the conference season. Not only did we dance and score well but knowing that we did it with good character that was noticed by the other teams means so much. We want character to be at the root of all we do, and we are so proud that we showed that,” said Sohn.
For the team to be part of an excellent conference that frequently sends teams to state is a difficult position to be in for a brand-new team. Then, to not only join those other teams, but to also keep up with them in the scoring and not finish last each and every meet is very impressive.
“We are feeling like champions today for how well it went,” said Sohn.
And they should feel like champions, the Metro East is a strong dance team conference.
Now, they will prepare for the section dance competition by travelling to the New Prague invite on January 25.
