After the Raider wrestling team lost a heartbreaking match to the number one ranked Class AA team in the state, the Simley Spartans two weeks ago, 34-24, the Raiders rebounded nicely with three straight wins that following Saturday. That show of perseverance by the Raiders set the stage for another dominant week. It also paved the way for a Class AAA ranking change for Hastings.
According to the Guillotine.com, on Jan. 12, prior to the Simley loss, Hastings was ranked as the fifth team in the state for Class AAA behind number one St. Michael Albertville, Stillwater, Waconia and Eden Prairie. Since then, the strong showing at Simley and the domination in the other duals since, Hastings is now ranked as the third best team in the state for Class AAA, behind STMA and Waconia.
Trey and Blake Beissel remain as the number one singles in their weight classes of 106 and 113, respectively, Jack Bainbridge is ranked seventh at 132, Josh Route is 10th at 145, Aiden Erickson is sixth at 160, Rico Cooper is ninth at 182, Austin Leflay is sixth at 220 and Blake Clemons is seventh at 285.
Hastings was host to a triangular meet on Friday, which included the Raiders Alumni night. Raider alumni cheered the Raiders to victory over both Easview, 64-9 and Prescott, 77-0. Between the two matches, the current wrestlers joined over 100 Alumni in the stands for a large group picture. After the meet was over, there was a gathering at Dugarel’s for all Raider Alumni.
Saturday, Hastings took a trip to Faribault for a quadrangular meet against three opponents. Hastings won all three matches there. Hastings 63 -TCU 13, Hastings 65 -Prior Lake 6, Hastings 61 -Faribault 15 The Raiders have a month left of the regular season and to prep for the state meet with is held the first weekend in March. This next week will be a huge test for Hastings. Thursday, they host East Ridge, Ellsworth and Eagan. Then they travel to STMA to take on the number one Class AAA team in the state, both of those meets start at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, the JV Conference tournament takes place at Mahtomedi.
