The Hastings Hurricanes had their second game of their inaugural 35 plus baseball season Sunday against the Rosemount pipers where they fell 4-2.
Nick Horsch started on the mound for the Hurricanes, and he did a great job keeping the Pipers off balance for the four innings he pitched. Facing 18 batters, Horsch struck four, walked three and allowed one run on three hits.
Offensively, the Hurricanes jumped out to the early lead in the bottom of the first against one of the top-10 pitchers in the league. Jordy Horsch led off with a bunt single and was advanced to second on a throwing error during a pickoff attempt. Daniel Castillo hit a single to left, advancing Horsch to third. With runners on the corners, Derrick Pfeffer crushed a fly ball to right center clearing the bases to give the Canes a 2-0 lead.
The rest of the game, the offense came primarily from the Pipers who scored one in the third off Horsch, one in the fifth off Mark Hoiland to tie the game and then the dagger in the seventh, two runs off Cane’s ace, Pfeffer to close out the 4-2 loss for the Canes.
Jordy Horsch led the offense going 2-for-3 at the plate. Castillo, Pfeffer and Andrew Swanson each went 1-for-3.
The next opportunity to catch the Hurricanes is May 18 at 7:00 p.m. in Apple Valley then on May 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Dundas. Their next home game at Veterans Park is May 22 at 7:00 p.m. vs. Northfield.
