A Hastings woman was arrested and booked into the Dakota County Jail after leading police on a chase through the city streets on Monday, Feb. 10.
Beth Ann Fuchs, 39, was charged with a felony count of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle as well as misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and driving at unreasonable speeds.
Officers on patrol observed a vehicle allegedly operated by Fuchs parked in the roadway. When officers attempted a traffic stop, “the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed,” according to the criminal complaint filed Feb. 12 in Dakota County Court. Police pursued the vehicle for more than 10 minutes. “The vehicle traveled at high rates of speed, would stop and start, signal then turn in the wrong direction and travel on the wrong side of the road,” the complaint states.
Stop sticks were deployed, and the vehicle ran them over and continued with a flat tire.
“Eventually the tire launched away from the vehicle, and the driver lost control of the vehicle. The driver continued driving through yards and plowing through trash cans,” the complaint states.
It eventually came to a stop, but Fuchs didn’t get out of the car. Officers broke the driver’s window and placed Fuchs under arrest.
Her bail was set at $25,000. A first appearance was held Feb. 12 with another hearing set for March 13.
