Anyone lucky enough to have a child taught by Ms. Katie Regenfuss knows how she sets up her kindergarten students for a bright and successful future of learning! Going into her 20th year of teaching, she not only has the experience, but the biggest heart for her career.
After completing her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin River Falls, she went on to complete her master’s degree from St. Mary’s University. Her studies gave her knowledge; her passion is what touches our kids!
“I get the honor to be a part of a child’s life while helping them grow academically, socially and emotionally,” Katie said. “I get the opportunity to show them they are an integral part of a classroom and school community and empower them to be their best selves while learning through mistakes, in a place that loves and accepts them. I became a teacher because I get to be a part of making the world a better place!”
Parents and kids in the Hastings School District are reaping the benefits of having someone who chose this career to help our kids and are lucky to have such enthusiasm helping inspire our students.
“I get to spend my days with amazing kids, learning alongside them through their eyes,” she said. “I have the opportunity to guide and challenge them, to teach them kindness, acceptance and tenacity. How lucky am I that I often get to watch them grow as learners and leaders through their elementary years?”
Katie wishes that parents could be flies on the wall in her classroom. There she says they would see how their child is encouraged, supported, challenged and celebrated each day for little moments and big discoveries.
When Katie is not inspiring her classroom, she loves to cook! She claims to especially love complicated recipes. Her perfect Saturday morning is spent with a cup of coffee and a great book!
We are grateful for amazing teachers like Katie in ISD200. Attracting and keeping educational professions like her is how we stay #200Strong!
