Katie Nye Success Coach at Kennedy Elementary

If you’ve spent any time in a school classroom, you know that our teachers wear many hats! They inspire the love of learning, build confidence, provide emotional support and are the students’ biggest cheerleaders during challenging times. For some students, they are a stable and always present mentor and caregiver. For all students, our teachers try their best to help them succeed.

Ms. Katie Nye is one of these teachers. After completing her degree from St. Mary’s University, she started her career in elementary education. In the past 8 years, she has worked in both the Cannon Falls and Hastings school systems as an elementary teacher, a student success coach, and this next school year, as a reading interventionist.

“I became a teacher because I love to help kids grow as humans, and to be their best selves,” she said. “I love making connections with kids and seeing their light bulbs go on.”

As a third-grade teacher, Nye inspired a classroom full of students, and now, as a student success coach, and reading interventionist, she is able to work in small groups or in individual sessions with kids who need extra support, both academically and behaviorally. The extra dedication to these kids is how our school district supports these students to succeed.

Raising strong, healthy, smart kids takes everyone in a child’s life, and our educational professionals work as a partner in this journey. Ms. Nye hopes parents understand that “everything we do as teachers is because we care deeply for your kids and want what is best for them, just like you.”

Outside of the classroom, Katie enjoys spending time with her new little baby. She enjoys taking her for walks, and having fun with her extended family here in Hastings. Katie is deeply involved in our community, previously working with the YMCA, Camp Spring Lake Park, Black Dirt Theater and now serving on the Show Choir Board.

We are fortunate to have devoted educators in ISD200. Their commitment and passion for supporting our kids is how we create strong schools. Our community is lucky to have educators like Ms. Nye. It is professionals like her that make us #200Strong!
