We are fortunate to have incredible education professionals in the Hastings School District who work to bring services to students and families through our special education department.
The range of services they provide are vast - and their goals and beliefs are guiding principles that benefit our entire community. One such belief is: We believe all students can learn and deserve to have their educational needs met.
Students at Hastings Middle School are lucky to have Ms. Michelle Munger as one of their amazing Special Education teachers, assisting in the goal of helping students succeed and reach their fullest potential.
Michelle has spent nearly two decades working with kids, obtaining her undergraduate degree from Augsburg and a master’s degree from Concordia. In addition to her education and experience, the thing that benefits our kids the most is her drive.
“I love working on the HMS team as a PSA (pupil support assistant),” she said. “It was incredible to witness the light in the kids when they grasped the concept of a learning target. It gave me the drive to do more, by pursuing a degree in Special Education.”
Asked what the best thing about being a teacher is, Munger doesn’t hesitate- it’s the kids! “I am truly motivated by their learning and success. I think parents know this, but our school district truly is a gem in our community. To see all the behind-the-scenes efforts that go toward kids and their growth as humans, is something to see. Parents - your kids are awesome.”
And awesome are the educators who help these incredible kids thrive!
Michelle is a veteran of the US Navy, serving after graduating high school in Brooklyn Center. She loves a good adventure, and always looks forward to her next opportunity to travel and explore. In addition to enjoying fishing, she’s taken it to the next level and has started her own fishing pole company! Talk about an incredible person doing incredible things. We are fortunate to have talent like this in our Hastings Schools. With staff like Ms. Munger, we are #200Strong.
