The Raider Volleyball team has played four games so far: South Saint Paul, Simley, North Saint Paul and Mahtomedi. We reached out to Head Coach Anne Korenchen to talk about the season so far.

“Having graduated so many seniors last year, we have a fairly new team, but players that are hard workers and up to the challenge,” Korenchen said. Hastings is in a similar situation to last year having a senior heavy group. They are a talented crew that bring determination to work hard and make this season memorable. How is the surprise fall season going so far? The Raiders are 1-3. They started the season with a win over South Saint Paul, 3 to 2. Then they suffered three straight losses: Simley 0 to 3, North Saint Paul 0 to 3 and Mahtomedi 1 to 3 The roster for the Raiders has 11 players rounding on the squad this season. “We have been seeing big swings from Senior Abby Axell, Sophomore Macy Frandrup, Junior Lilly Nuytten and Senior Ali Gronquist. We also have a pretty big block that we put up with our front row players ranging anywhere from five foot seven to six foot one,” Korenchen continued, “Axell, Frandrup, Nuytten, Gronquist, Junior Autumn McClintock, Senior Veronica Radke, Senior Veronica Kaiser.”

Korenchen then talked about the back half of the court, “Our primary back row players are Senior Courtney Dahler and Senior Chantil Leese. They play with a ton of intensity and are determined to get any ball up that comes to our side of the net. Rounding out the roster are our two setters, Senior Kay Beebe and Junior Megan Meyer. We rely on these two to run the court and do a fantastic job of getting the ball to our hitters.”

Aside from being surprised with the season moving back to the fall, after the first week, the Minnesota Department of Health released guidelines to allow spectators for indoor sports. Something the girls, and families love!

The Raiders will travel to Hill-Murray Tuesday, October 27th, Host Tartan on Thursday, October 29th then travel to Henry Sibley on Wednesday, November 4th. All games are scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
