Virtual potential candidate meeting with Miss Hastings 2020

HASTINGS, MN – MAY 24, 2021 – The Miss Hastings Scholarship Program will hold an informational candidate session via Zoom on Wednesday, June 9th, at 6:30 PM. Organized by Sophie Keeler, Miss Hastings 2020, the virtual meeting is an opportunity for young women interested in becoming candidates for the Miss Hastings 2022 title to ask questions about the program and learn more about the year of service Miss Hastings completes. It’s also open to community members who want to inform young women they know about entering.

When asked about the benefits of holding her title, Keeler commented, “Miss Hastings gets to interact with and serve her community and earn scholarship money to fund her education at any accredited college or trade school. Knowing the extraordinary individuals within the Hastings area, I am sure there are exceptional young women within the Hastings School District who fit the eligibility criteria and have high aspirations, love to serve their communities, and are looking for an opportunity to challenge themselves and grow.” The candidate application deadline is Tuesday, June 15th, 2021.

Young women who will be 17 by the end of this July, but no older than 24 by the end of this year and have a high school diploma or GED by June 2022 are eligible to enter. They must also be a resident of Hastings School District 200, a student of one of its schools, a full-time employee within the area, or a graduate of its high school and a Minnesota resident for at least one month before the competition.

As an official preliminary to the Miss Minnesota and the Miss America Competitions, MHSP gives young women a platform to put their education to work as they promote a cause, or Social Impact Initiative (SIi), that they’re passionate to share with others. Competition categories include a 90-second talent presentation, 10-minute press-style interview, an on-stage interview question, evening wear, and a 10-second statement to advocate their SIi.

MHSP awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Miss Hastings 2020, a $300 scholarship to her first runner-up, and $700 to her second runner-up at their 2019 competition. They also gave a $700 scholarship to winners of the Talent Award, the People’s Choice Award, and the Spirit of Miss America Award. MHSP is fundraising to match or exceed these prizes for the 2021 Miss Hastings Scholarship Competition on Wednesday, July 15th, at 7 PM at Cornerstone Church in Hastings.
