Up for good news some 30 years ago was the city of Hastings, earning a Pedestrian Safety Achievement Award from the American Automobile Association on account of going 12 years without a fatality. As part of determining the awards, a panel of traffic safety experts considered things like pedestrian death and injury rates as well as legislation and enforcement efforts, with population used to categorize entrants.
Coming in for notice as well was Project Share, to take place Saturday, Dec. 5 at First National Bank, in Hastings.
Then planning its 23rd year, Project share was part of an effort for those more fortunate to share what they had with those less fortunate, a portion being set aside for the annual Hastings Lions Christmas toy project. In 1991 Project Share had provided food, clothing, toys and gifts to some 340 families, some

Mrs. James Coffman is quite sick with la grippe.
December 1, 1892 Volume XI, No. 76 George James was caught in the tumbling rod of the horse power attached to the baler on Monday and tumbled around until he forgot to breathe for awhile, but the doctor says he has received no very serious injury.
The ice boating season on Lake Pepin is now fully opened, the ice being strong enough for safety and in fair condition. The number of boats in the lake has increased considerably since last year.
