Two people died and another was airlifted for medical treatment after an accident caused by a wrong-way driver on Saturday, Sept. 6 on Hwy. 56 in Randolph.

A report from the Minnesota State Patrol states that at approximately 9:16 a.m., a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Seth Nechville, 28, Kenyon, was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Hwy. 56 when it collided head-on with a 2019 GMC Terrain, travelling in the southbound lanes of the highway.

Two people in the Terrain were killed in the accident, driver Peter Foxvong Olson and his wife, Patricia, of AppleValley. Nechville was airlifted to Regions Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A fire was reported at the scene.

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office reported that Hwy. 56 (Randolph Boulevard) was shut down between 292nd Street and 300th Street as the accident was investigated. It was reopened shortly after 11:30 a.m.

The accident remains under investigation by the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol. Responding also the Randolph-Hampton Fire Department and Northfield EMS, along with an AirCare helicopter.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident. Nechville reportedly has two convictions for alcohol-related offenses, and his probation in one case ended on March 1.

A criminal charging decision is expected this week.
