Track teams off to fast start, win first three meets

The Hastings Track & Field teams are off to a great start. Three meets into the season, the Raiders have each placed first in the meets in team score.
Head coach Jason Koch likes what he sees from his runners, jumpers and throwers and loves the fact that the track season is somewhat ahead of schedule, thanks to the mild weather.
“So far, things are going great. It is rare to actually get this many meets in this early in the season. Usually, we have a meet or two cancelled due to weather at this point,” he said.
The team continues to show improvement.
“We have several kids who have some really good performances so far and we are looking to improve those by the time the conference, section and state meets roll around. One of the things we use to see where we are at is the Hamline Elite Meet. This is a meet in which only the top performers are accepted and get to compete in the meet. At this point it looks like we might get a good number of kids into that meet, which is a really positive indicator of where we are at as a team and as individuals. Things are very encouraging at this point,” said Koch.
The Hamline Elite Meet is scheduled for Friday, April 26.
