Tom Cain passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 90, in Hastings, Minnesota.

He was born on June 21, 1933 in Dubuque, Iowa to Matthew and Lucille (McCauley) Cain. He married his high school sweetheart Mary Jean (Etringer) Cain on June 13, 1953. He taught the various Sciences and Industrial Arts for over 40 years, retiring in 1996. He taught in Plainfield and Sumner Iowa, in Hastings and St. Paul, most recently at Humboldt Junior High.

He was an avid Twins fan, gardener, runner, tennis player and golfer. He had a love of learning, and loved to travel with various friends where he was known for his sense of humor and jokes. He volunteered for Regina Hospital for over 20 years and loved restoring old military aircraft (a Huey helicopter, C-47, and the Jenny) at the Air National Guard Museum. He also spent many years volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, the Science Museum, the History Center, and was an amateur archaeologist. He was a Eucharistic Minister at Guardian Angels now St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (SEAS) Church.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Lucille Cain; siblings, Mary Blackstock, Michael Cain, and Cathy Town.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years Jean; four children, Tim (Patty) Cain, Dave (Janet) Cain, Kelly (Keith) Carufel, and Chris (Heidi) Cain; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and one more on the way; his brother, Jim (Pat) Cain; and brother-in-law, Tony Towne.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 15th Street West, Hastings, MN 55033, with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. prior to Mass. A luncheon will follow the service at the church with a private interment at SEAS Cemetery later. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
