Thomas H. “Tom” Kimmes, age 76 of Hastings, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Tom, the son of Herbert M. and Dorothy (Murtaugh) Kimmes, was born on May 26, 1947, in Hastings. On January 17, 1970, Tom and Maureen Kasel were wed at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. Tom served in the Hastings Army National Guard for 6 years after graduating from Hastings High School with the class of 1965. Along with a lifetime career as a farmer, he also worked at the Peavey Flour Mill in Hastings as a sheet-metal worker for 21 years. He retired from farming in August of 2018. Tom served on the Marshan Board for many years. He loved to ride mules and horses with friends, attend tractor pulls and farm auctions, and camping with family. Tom will forever be remembered as the life of any party and loved by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his sister, JoAnn Judge.

Tom is survived by his wife, Maureen (Moe) of 54 years; children, Marty (Jane) Kimmes, Chris (Rob) Bowers, and Mat Kimmes; two grandchildren, Eden Kimmes and Case Bowers; siblings, Mary (Kenny) Deutsch, Gloria (Ken) Derks, and Theresa (Dave) Meyer; and by many other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held 12 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Trier, with Father Michael Tix officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.

Family and friends were cordially invited to a visitation from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., and to a reception immediately following the Mass, all at church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, Tom’s family requests memorials be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in his memory.
