We followed the election of the new school board members with interest. We had no idea how ugly the tactics and behaviors related to this election were until we saw the CNN news story describing the personal attack to which a committed School Board member was subjected, involving her child. This news story was printed in the December 2nd issue of the Hastings Journal.

It’s deeply troubling to think that some feel a personal attack involving children is an acceptable approach to politics. This clearly went well beyond any School Board policy discussion or debate. While there has been much more written and communicated about this, we wrote this letter to show our support of the importance of inclusion in our community. Moving forward, we hope everyone will work to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all.
