Both of the Raiders soccer teams finished their regular season last week. The boys won their final three games of the season defeating South St. Paul 4-1, St. Paul Harding 2-1 and Simley 3-1 finishing the season 5-10-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the Metro East Conference. The Girls won two of their last three, beating South St. Paul 4-1, Simley 7-2 and falling to Farmington 1-3. The girls finished with a 7-7-2 overall record and a 5-1-1 conference record.

BOYS

Against South St. Paul, Sam Sanchez and Anthony Lau each recorded one goal and Adam Schmaltz had two. Brody Geib and Jackson Reents each scored a goal against Harding on senior night. Against Simley, Jed Carlson, Sebastian Strauss and Ethan Schaack each netted one to earn the final victory of the week.

“We played for our seniors, and we played gritty the whole match, and against any team, especially a team that is very well defensive or defensed like these guys, we had to because they weren't letting anything into the middle. We had to be patient and be gritty even when we lose possession. So, I felt like the guys played for the seniors tonight and I thought the seniors played out of their minds,” head coach Jamie Swanson said after the Harding game.

Harding may have been very good defensively, but Hastings was better, only allowing a few shots on net which was the result for all three games.

As of the Harding game, Swanson expected to get the six seed for sections. The Raiders winning the final game and a key section opponent losing, he had changed that expectation to the fifth seed. As per usual though the section seeding meeting had coaches from other conferences sticking together to keep the Raiders seeded lower than they should have been. Hastings ended up with the sixth seed and they played at Park of Cottage Grove on Tuesday. The game was played after press time so we will have the results of that game next week. We will also update you of any future games if the Raiders win on our social media.

GIRLS

Against South St. Paul Siena Sanchez had all four goals in the 4-1 victory. Unfortunately, individual stats were not available for the final two games. The second-place finish in the Metro East Conference gave the girls the fourth seed in the section and they played host to Apple Valley on Tuesday night. Again, we will have the results next week along with updates on social media.
