The Hastings ISD #200 Truth in Taxation hearing will be held Wednesday, Dec. 20 as part of the regular monthly school board meeting, which starts at 6 p.m.
The total tax levy which district residents pay to support school operations will increase 9.03%, under the spending plan approved by the school board in June for the 2023-24 school year.
That includes the general fund levy of $6,989,912, operating referendum levy funds of $7,624,113 and building bonds debt levy of $4,489,651. Total property taxes are projected at $19,103.676.
The district’s general fund budget for this school year is $64,393,470.20.
Local property taxes pay 17.88% for school operations, with state aid covering 73.71% of the bill and federal aid at 4.7%.
On the expenditure side, salaries and wages make up 55.56% of the budget and employee benefits comprise 25.4%. Purchased services are 15.75% of expenditures, and supplies and materials come in at 2.57%.
The district into the future is projecting declining enrollment, meaning less in per pupil aid from the state. Enrollment this school year was projected at 4,469 students, down from 4,482 last year. Next year that number drops to 4,372.7. By the 2027-28 school year, enrollment is expected at 4,087.5.
