Having just read the report by Bruce Karnick in your August 27, 2020 issue regarding road construction projects in and around Hastings I must comment.

It amused me that the project on 15th street includes reducing the street width from 40 feet to 36 feet so as to impact speeding vehicles. It was reported that it would encourage drivers to slow down and reduce overall speed on the street. Bruce reported that drivers slow down when they feel they have less space around them.

Changes in Senate

I want people to understand that Minnesota is in recession. A deep one caused by no person but by a pandemic. If Republicans retake the state senate and take the state house, millions of Minnesotans could be negatively

It is sad that the City Council of Hastings did not recognize this when planning for road construction. A four foot bicycle lane along 15th Street would have enhanced safety for bicycle riders as well as allowed the sidewalks along that street to be used by pedestrians without the interference of bicyclists. One can only hope that as the City Council approves additional street projects that they consider all constituents of the community.
