In a heartwarming ceremony filled with gratitude and admiration, the Hastings Rotary Club honored longtime educator and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) leader Andy Lutz with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow recognition. The event, held at Hastings High School, was a testament to Lutz’s unwavering dedication to students, his passion for faith-based mentorship, and his deep-rooted commitment to service.
Jim Weinzettel, a proud Rotarian and longtime Hastings community member, set the tone for the occasion by reflecting on the impact of Rotary in Hastings. “Rotary is all about making our community better,” he shared. “From the Rotary Pavilion at Levy Park to the Cycling Without Age program and the River Town Fishing project, we strive to serve. But today, we’re here for something very special—to honor Andy Lutz.”
For over two decades, Lutz has served as a guiding force behind Hastings High School’s FCA program, helping shape the lives of students and athletes alike. His efforts have positioned the local FCA huddle as one of the most successful in Minnesota, creating a welcoming environment where students can grow in faith, leadership, and personal character.
Weinzettel, reflecting on Lutz’s influence, described him as “a role model in the classroom and beyond. He is an excellent educator, known for his kindness and trustworthiness. His impact through FCA is astounding.”
The Paul Harris Fellow recognition is one of Rotary International’s highest honors, named after its founder, Paul Harris, who established Rotary in 1905 with the vision of fostering community and service. The award celebrates individuals whose lives reflect Rotary’s core motto: “Service Above Self.” Lutz, with his selfless devotion to Hastings students and the larger community, was the clear choice for this distinction.
Humbled by the recognition, Lutz accepted the honor with characteristic humility and gratitude. “This isn’t just my award,” he said, addressing the gathered students and faculty. “This belongs to all of us—to our huddle, to the students who show up and lead with integrity, and to this incredible school community. What we do here matters.”
As the ceremony concluded, applause filled the room, a resounding affirmation of the respect and admiration Hastings has for Andy Lutz. His legacy of faith, mentorship, and service continues to inspire students and educators alike, ensuring that his impact will be felt for generations to come.
