1939-2020
Martino, Ronald P of Hastings passed away at the age of 80 on 10/03/2020 at United Hospital in St. Paul. Ron was born in St. Paul on 10/19/1939 and lived in Hastings at the time of his death. He served honorably in the Army Reserve for six years and began a career in the local electronics industry. Ron discovered his true calling as a potter, establishing his first pottery business at Hungry Point Farm in Welch, MN; in 1991 he moved his pottery business to Hastings, MN and founded Mississippi Clayworks. He achieved his lifetime goal of successfully making over 100,000 pieces. He also had an interest in importing and promoting the pottery of Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, Mexico; dedicating countless hours to the village where he spent time engaging with local potters and helping the local children. The happiest day of his life is when he married his long time business neighbor, Barbara Hollenbeck in 2012. Ron’s passing will leave a huge hole in the lives of people he touched personally and by those who enjoyed his wonderful, functional and beautiful stoneware pottery.
His stepson Jack Prescott preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter Victoria Martino, stepchildren from his first marriage Parry (Vicky) Prescott and Susie (Chris) Harradine and five step-grandchildren; his current wife Barbara Hollenbeck and her son Andrew Chesser.
A private memorial service will be held on 10/25/2020. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lewis House of Hastings, MN.
