The big red slide at Roadside Park in Hastings has been an attraction for decades. The steep slope provided a perfect spot for a long slide, but that era is coming to an end.

The City of Hastings announced via social media that the slide is no longer able to be repaired. Parts are no longer available from the manufacturer and there has not been a suitable replacement found.

The slide and its state of disrepair was a hot topic on a Hastings social media group. People have been discussing the length of time the slide had been damaged, how to catch those responsible for any damage, folks wondering why there have been no repairs made and people saying how their kids enjoy the slide.

For the time being, the slide will be roped off until the parks department crew is able to remove and recycle the slide. The parks staff is not giving up on finding a suitable replacement and if one is found, you will be able to read about it here.
