The girls swim team was tested against a tough Eastridge Raptors team on Sept. 19 where they fell 106-80. They then bounced back nicely against North St. Paul, winning 87-54.

“At Eastridge, I would have to say that this was the best meet we have ever lost. We all had fun. As coaches we got to see the girls really race in their best events and see what they could do. The girls had fun getting to have some really good races,” said head coach Katie McAlpin.

McAlpin and her staff assign ‘performers of the meet designations’, for the Eastridge meet. The swimmers of the meet were Stella Hilgers and Izzy Green. Hilgers cut time in both of her individual events. She cut 10 seconds in the 200 freestyle and 11 seconds in the 500-freestyle earning her a first-place finish in the JV 500 freestyle event. Green swam her season best time in the 500-freestyle by nine seconds. She took third in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 500 freestyle varsity events. The driver of the meet was Payton Coombs. Coombs had a lifetime best score, breaking 100 and was very consistent in all of her dives.

The Raiders had their fourth Metro East Conference meet on Sept. 21 against North St. Paul. The senior captains wrote the meet line-up mixing divers as swimmers and swimmers as divers. Hastings won the meet 87-54.

The swimmers of the meet were Lila Salzman and Emma Dehmlow. Salzman had lifetime best times in both of her individual events. She cut three seconds in the 100 butterfly and one second in the 100-breaststroke. Emma also had a lifetime best time in the 100-butterfly, cutting four seconds. She also took second in both of her individual events. The driver of the meet was Chloe Aarness. Aarness won diving and earned a lifetime best score and the school record in a 6-dive list with a score of 256.05.

Hastings hosts Mahtomedi on Sept. 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the middle school, then a week later, on Oct. 12, hosts Simley also at the middle school at 6:00 p.m. for senior night.
