In Hastings, our local River Valley Band (RVB) is about more than just making music; it's a chance to connect with neighbors, make new friends, and be part of something special.
A Welcoming Ensemble
The Hastings Community Band welcomes musicians of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned player or dusting off an instrument after years, there's a place for you. Starting on September 10th, the band practices weekly at 6:30 at the Hastings Middle School band room, where laughter, camaraderie and the fun of making music are as common as the notes on the page.
Building Bonds Through Music
For many members, the band is a source of joy and a break from the daily grind. "It's incredible how music brings people together," says Cress Gackle, a clarinetist who joined the band many years ago. "I've made many friends here, and playing music together is a wonderful way to do that."
Performances and Community Engagement
The band performs performs at least 4 concerts throughout the year, the first of which is the annual Veterans Day concert. The Christmas concert is always a crowd pleaser in addition to concerts in mid-winter and spring. These performances are a highlight for both the musicians and the audience, fostering a sense of pride and unity within the community. "Seeing the smiles on people's faces when we perform is incredibly rewarding for the members," shares Tom Maeck, the band's conductor.
