Raiders sweep the week, move to 3-2

Hastings Baseball had three games scheduled last week, Mon. against South St. Paul, a game they won at home 2-0. Wed. the Raiders were scheduled to play Simley, that game was moved to Thur. Friday, due to the cold weather, the game against Tartan was postponed to 4/25. Against the Spartans, Hastings won a nailbiter 11-8.
The first game of the week was at home against So. St. Paul. Matt Sherry started on the mound for Hastings where he had six strong shutout innings, walking three and striking out six. The Raider offense scored one in the third and one in the sixth. Alex Hendrickson and Jack Seleski were responsible for a run each in the win and the win went to Sherry. Evan Nelson came into close the 2-0 game in the seventh and was flawless with three straight strikeouts.
The rollercoaster game against Simley was an exciting one. Simley jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the first. Raider lead-off hitter Cade Kimmes reached first on a walk. Evan Nelson and Jack Seleski were walked to load the bases with one out. Johnny Teiglan hit a double with two outs to score Kimmes and Nelson, narrowing the gap to 3-2.
The score remained 3-2 until the top of the fourth when Simley scored five runs to go up 8-2. Hastings fought back in the bottom of the fourth scoring nine to take the 11-8 win. All nine players scored in the inning, including a grand slam by Alex Hendrickson.
Hastings held on to a three-run lead for the win. Mark Denoyer started for Hastings going three-and-a-third innings after walking three and striking out two. Creed Peterson finished the fourth inning logging two outs. Peterson earned the win with Hendrickson closing out the final three innings of the game.
With the postponement of the Tartan game, the Raiders will play four games this week. Apr. 22 at Mahtomedi, then hosting St. Thomas on Wed. Tartan on Thur. and then traveling to Hill Murray on Fri, Apr. 26. All four games are scheduled to start at 4:30, p.m.
