Raiders have rough outing at Robbinsdale

The Hastings Raiders travelled to New Hope to take on Robbinsdale Cooper for the last regular season Friday night game and things did not go as planned. Hastings fell to the Hawks 42-7. The worst part of the night was losing several Raiders to injuries. Due to the privacy of the students, no other details can be shared regarding the injuries.

The first play from scrimmage, Hastings fumbled and Robbinsdale recovered at the one. One play later they had the lead and never looked back. The Hawks scored on their first five possessions, going up 35-0 before the end of the first half. On the final Robbinsdale kickoff, Cole Zeien broke free for an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Unfortunately for Hastings, that would be their only score and they fell to the Hawks 42-7.

Offensively, Hastings had 26 yards rushing on 24 carries and 46 yards passing on 11 attempts. Defensively, they saw 53 plays allowing 450 yards. Robbinsdale had control of both lines all night with their sheer size. The smallest lineman on their roster is 210 pounds which is more than the average size of Hastings. Most of the Robbinsdale linemen were over 250 pounds with the largest being 320 pounds.

The Raiders were soundly defeated but as per usual, they never gave up, they fought to the end.

The next battle for Hastings is against St. Thomas Academy, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m. in Mendota Heights. Then they return home to take on Armstrong Cooper on Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
