The Hastings Raiders Girls Soccer team had one of their better weeks of the season this previous week as they had two games on the schedule and split their games with a win and a loss.

The victory came in their first game on the road on Wednesday, September 29 against the North St. Paul Polars. Following up on the Raiders Boys Soccer team’s tough 8-0 loss to the Polars Boys Soccer team, the Raiders Girls Soccer team brought the Raiders name back with vengeance against the Polars Girls Soccer team.

The Raiders were able to pull off their strongest victory on the season against the Polars, winning 9-0. Leading the way in scoring were senior captains Bella Meier and Megan Brown, as well as senior forward Laruen Hubbart. All three scored two goals apiece on the evening, while Meier led the team in assists with three and Hubbart had one.

The other three Raiders goals were scored by junior midfielder Ella Thorkelson, sophomore midfielder Abbi Pelava, and senior midfielder Ashlyn Endres.

Playing goalie for the game against the Polars was Lexi Qualy, who prevented six goal attempts made by North St. Paul in the shutout. The victory against the Polars was the Raiders first since their game on Friday, September 10 against the Tartan Titans.

Saturday, October 2 the Raiders played the team from across the county with a match up against the Burnsville Blaze. For the first half of the game both the Raiders and Blaze were able to get a goal in. Scoring for the Raiders in the first half was Thorkelson before the game reached the ten-minute mark in the first half.

In the second half, the Raiders were able to score another goal, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Blaze scored two of their own making the match up a 3-2 final in their favor. The loss against the Blaze brought the Raiders overall record to 3-9-2 on the year.

The Raiders Girls Soccer team has two games remaining on the schedule for the regular season. The first game is against Visitation Private School on the road in Mendota Heights on Tuesday, October 5 at 4:30 p.m. The Raiders Girls Soccer team’s final regular season game will be at home on Thursday, October 7 against Mathomedi and start at 5:00 p.m.
