After Covid-19 cancelled the 2020 season we were forced to switch gun clubs and split up our teams with trap shooting in Hampton and skeet in South St. Paul for the 2021 season. This resulted in us having to reduce the size of our teams significantly limiting trap to 80 and skeet to 15. Next season we expect to have both teams return to the 3M facility in Cottage Grove with hopes to regain our largest team in the nation status. During the seasons competition and practice rounds, we were impressed by the trap teams 37 straight 25’s and 3 straight 50’s as well as the skeet teams 5 straight 25’s and 1 straight 50. We have had a great season and expect to see some amazing shooting at the state and national championships this summer.

Based on five competition weeks the trap team ended the season in 1st place for Class 9A Conference 2 with 94,974.50 points against Foley, Owatonna, Bemidji, Northfield, ROCORI, Nicollet and Pine City. Foley followed in 2nd place with 91,803.50 points and Owatonna was 3rd with 85,808.00 points. Conference individual awards went to Brock Mosher who ended the season as 1st place high gun male with a 24.3 average and Gavin Smith in 3rd place with a 24.2 average. McKayla Kielas was awarded 2nd place high gun female with a 23.4 average and her sister Amelia Clark was awarded 3rd place with a 21.7 average. These shooters and the team will receive their conference awards at the state championship in Alexandria.

Trap shooters Brock Mosher (7 way tie for 17th place), Gavin Smith (5 way tie for 36th place), Noah Woodward (12 way tie for 61st place) and Brennen Kiefer (12 way tie for 61st place) ended the season in the top 100 overall statewide. They will receive an All-State patch and are qualified to compete at the MN State High School League Trap Tournament Invite Only in Prior Lake on Friday, June 25th against the top 100 shooters in the State.

The skeet team ended their season in 2nd place for Class 2A Conference 5 with 1,543.50 points against Wayzata, Mahtomedi, New Prague, Thief River Falls and White Bear Lake. Wayzata took 1st place with 2,006.00 points and Mahtomedi came in 3rd with 1,258.50 points. High gun male was Benjamin McKinney, tied for 5th place with a 22.30 average. High gun female was Jaidyn Schutz in 7th place with a 17.00 average. The team will receive their conference award at the skeet championship in Prior Lake.

On Tuesday June 22nd 62 members (19 female/42 male) of the trap team will compete at the State Championship in Alexandria, the world’s largest trap shooting event. We have 9 members (1 female/8 male) of the skeet team registered to compete at the State Skeet Championship in Prior Lake on Thursday, June 24th. Our goal in Alexandria is to qualify a five-person squad for the MNSHL Trap Tournament in Prior Lake. We have several individuals registered and hope to have two five person squads registered for the National High School League Trap Championship being held in Mason, Michigan in July.
