Raiders Boys Golf close: Bauer bound for State

Hastings varsity boys golf wrapped its 2025 season on a high note, delivering a balanced blend of senior leadership, depth across the lineup, and a standout individual performance. From chilly early-season conditions to the pressure-packed final rounds of conference and sectional play, the Raiders remained steady, resilient, and cohesive.

The spring kicked off with a challenging schedule, including a busy stretch in April at the Dakota County Invitational. Icy winds and sporadic showers challenged the field, but Hastings responded with strong team scores, demonstrating adaptability and concentration. Those early tests forged unity and gave the squad confidence heading into conference battles. Sophomore David Bauer emerged as the team’s rising star, steadily posting solid rounds throughout the season. At the Section 3AAA tournament, his clutch scoring helped Hastings secure fourth place in a deep field, earning him an individual berth at the Class AAA state tournament in Coon Rapids. His calm showings at Bunker Hills boded well for the program’s future.

The Raiders leaned heavily on their senior class, starting with Jon Harris. Harris produced the top round of the season, a 77 at a midseason meet, a performance that lifted Hastings in the Metro East Conference standings. His consistent scoring and veteran presence helped the team claim third place, besting rivals like Simley, Two Rivers, and Hill-Murray. Trey Bremer was another senior force all season. His steady play, including a season-best 80 on a rain-sodden course late in the spring, added stability to the lineup when it mattered most. His composure and work ethic in both tournament and practice rounds set a professional tone for the team. Luke Kendall, also a senior, emerged midseason as a reliable contributor. He posted his best round of 82 during the conference tournament, navigating soggy greens with smart iron play and solid putting. His steady performance under pressure helped cushion the team’s scoring pack and reinforced Hastings’ depth. Senior Drew Greiner made his presence felt in non-conference events. He turned in two of his strongest rounds during early spring meets, including a 79 at an away tournament. Greiner’s short game improvements and smarter course management were key to the Raiders maintaining consistency across rounds. Junior Drew Mamer quietly developed as the season progressed. His mid-70s round at a humid late-May meet provided a crucial boost when tournament tension was high. It was a sign that he’s ready to carry more weight in future lineups.

By midseason, Hastings had found its rhythm. Conference play brought tight scores and unpredictable weather, but the Raiders stayed focused and executed shots under pressure. Their third-place conference finish was well earned, reflecting collective effort and depth. At sectionals, David Bauer took center stage, but the senior-heavy lineup kept the team competitive. Fourth place showed Hastings belonged in the mix, and while it fell just short of a full-team state qualification, the performance earned respect and built momentum.

The 2025 Raiders boys golf campaign was defined by balance, growth, and quiet grit. Whether battling cold Minnesota winds, soggy fairways, or stiff competition, this group proved that teamwork, experience, and resolve go a long way. They left no doubt that progress isn’t flashy, it’s earned, stroke by stroke, round after round. Looking ahead, Hastings returns Bauer, and Mamer and a host of underclassmen. With Bauer’s experience at state and a senior group that knows how to win close rounds, the program looks poised for even greater success in 2026.
