Raider Swimmers finish fifth at sections

October 22nd and 23rd were the dates that finally gave the Raider ladies a chance to compete outside the conference. They may have been split into different sessions to keep the number of bodies down in the same physical space, but there were nine teams competing in the Girls Section 1AA Swim and Dive Championship.

The teams would finish: Farmington 371 Rochester Century 335 Lakeville North 292 Rochester Mayo 257 Hastings 227 Northfield 198.5 Lakeville South 194 Roch John Marshall 142 Owatonna 104.5 The order of events remains the same as the dual meets but scoring changes. The top 16 individuals earn team points. First earns 20 points, second 17, third 16, down to 16th earning one point. Points for relays are awarded to the top eight teams. First earns 40 points, second 34, third 32 down to eighth earning 22. Here are your individual and relay results for Hastings.

200 Medley Relay: Junior Kendal Jenkins, Sophomore Ava McNamara, Freshman Lauren Jenkins and Freshman Ashtyn Stewart Finished third with a time of 1:49.62. First place went to Rochester Century with a time of 1:48.76.

200 Freestyle: Junior Kendra Kosmoski finished 16th with a time of 2:03.77. Junior Ireland Zaruba finished 17th with a time of 2:04.14. Freshman Kira Aarness finished 19th with a time of 2:05.00 and Eighth Grader Izzy Green finished 29th with a time of 2:09.94. First place went to Senior Anna Ogren of Rochester John Marshall with a meet record time of 1:52.43. beating the previous record by almost a full second.

200 Individual Medly: Junior Lauren Jenkins took third place with a time of 2:14.56, followed by Freshman Clara Birken in 18th with a time of 2:24.5, then Junior Olivia Smiley with a time of 2:45.03 and Sophomore Chloe Robinson 2:56.25. First place went to Maddie Grimm of Farmington with a time of 2:08.46.

50 Freestyle: First place went to Lakeville North’s Katie Pattee with a time of 24.13. Hastings Sophomore Berlyn Byrd took ninth with a time of 25.39. Senior Jocelyn Brink 26.95, Senior Sydney Mares 30.43, Junio Sunshyne Lewis 21.34 round out the 50 free.

1 Meter Diving – 11 dives: Zibby Hanifl scored 440.00 to take first place for Northfield. Hasting’s divers Senior Annika Tverberg grabbed fourth place with 311.75 and Freshman Ashtyn Stewart took fifth with 292.15.

100 Butterfly: First place went to Ann Ogren of Rochester John Marshall who broke another meet record with a time of 55.05. Ashtyn Stewart took third with a time of 58.07 and Ava McNamara was right behind her with 58.41. Josey Larson finished 12th with 1:01.49 and Lauren Jenkins was 15th with 1:01.73. All four Hastings swimmers scored by placing in the top 16 for the 100 butterfly.

100 Freestyle: Farmington’s Camille Gehrke, a Sophomore took first with a time of 53.34. Kendal Jenkins finished seventh with 55.34, Kendra Kosmoski finished 16th with 56.66. Berlyn Byrd came in 22nd with 58.17 and Lydia Lerbs finished 32nd with 1:03.29.

500 Freestyle: Sophomore Natalie Boorjian from Rochester Mayo took first with a time of 5:07.96. Kira Aarness finished with 5:34.55, Ireland Zaruba 5:34.99 and Izzy Green 5:46.6 200 Freestyle Relay: Lakeville North finished first with a time of 1:37.92. Hastings relay comprised of Berlyn Byrd, Ireland Zaruba, Kira Aarness, and Ava McNamara finished seventh wit ha time of 1:44.85 100 Backtroke: Hastings own Kendal Jenkins would claim the section championship for the backstroke with a time of 58.89 beating second place Emiliy Garrison of Rochester Century by almost a full second. Josey Larson would finish with a time of 1:06.2, Clara Birken 1:07.27 and Olivia Smiley with 1:18.59 100 Breaststroke: First place would go to Maddie Grimm of Farmington and her Meet Record of 1:05.15. Ava Mc-Namara would take 10th with 1:10.26, Jocelyn Brink 1:13.43, Nora Hitchcock 1:21.77 and Sydney Mares 1:38.91 400 Freestyle Relay. Rochester Century would claim the title spot with 3:38.26. Hastings would take third with Ashtyn Stewart, Lauren Jenkins, Kendal Jenkins and Kira Aarness. 3:40.42
