The Hastings Police Department and Da- kota County Sheriff's Office are once again participating in the Pink Patch Project to raise awareness around the fight against breast can cer and to support the research organizations combating this deadly disease. Last year, 17 agencies in Minnesota participated in raising over $25,000 total to support breast cancer research. DCSO and HPD combined for nearly 10% of the total amount raised.

This year, HPD has a new item to sell, a pint glass with the patch logo on it. The difference is, the logo is all one color and it’s closer to peach than a true pink, which was by design.

There is a bit of a nod to the originator in the peach design, according to Officer Whit eny Rinowski, “It works because, did you know the person that originally started handing out ribbons related to breast cancer awareness was handing out peach colored loop ribbons? Estee Lauder ended up using her idea but changed the ribbon to pink, so this year’s pink pint glass is to commemorate her grassroots efforts.” This year’s sales window for the pink patch project is October 1 through October 29. Items from HPD can be purchased at City Hall or the Police Department. The Spool House also has patches on hand at their location and the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. It is preferred that folks buy the items in person with either cash or checks (made out to the Hastings Pink Patch Project). PayPal is an option for payment but it is requested that the payment be made with the ‘Friends and Family’ option to avoid extra fees.

Dakota County has their sales going at two locations, the Gun Permit windows in both Hastings at the Law Enforcement Center and the Western Service Center in Apple Valley.

Details of both campaigns can be found at www.pinkpatchproject.com On Saturday at the Mall of America, of- ficers from around the Twin Cities gathered in the rotunda for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. Officer Rinowski repre sented Hastings during the event. Agencies were allowed to sell their swag to help in their campaign against breast cancer.

Swing by both locations and pick up some cool pink swag while supporting the American Cancer Society.
