The Hastings Police Department is joining the Pink Patch Project for the eighth year to raise awareness for breast cancer and funds for the American Cancer Society.
This year the Hastings Police Department is selling three different patches along with a pint glass and color-changing plastic glass through Oct. 31.
At the end of the month, all funds raised from sales will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
The Pink Patch Project started in the Seal Beach, Calif. Police Department in 2013 to raise awareness about October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Since then, the program has grown into a nationwide fundraiser during the month of October. The program came to Minnesota in 2017 with the Rosemount Police Department and Hastings Police joining in 2018.
Currently, more than 70 police and fire agencies across Minnesota participate with nearly 1,000 agencies participating across the nation.
Since the program’s creation, more than $1.5 million have been donated to breast cancer research and education.
The three designs this year being sold at the Hastings Police Department are the current shoulder patch design, the spiral bridge design, and a half-moon design.
Patches can be bought at Hastings City Hall and the Hastings Police Department through Oct. 31.
