Patricia “Trish” Olson passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 12, 2026, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
There was truly no one quite like Trish. She loved deeply, laughed often, and brought joy and personality into the lives of everyone around her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and an incredible friend who gave so much of herself to the people she loved.
Trish was born in Hastings, Minnesota, on May 25, 1966, to Wallace “Mope” and Agnes (Malloy) Holmes. From the very beginning, she brought laughter and joy into the world. She grew up in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School with the class of 1984. Trish went on to spend 27 years at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings, where she truly loved the veterans she served and the relationships she made throughout the years.
In 2008, Trish and Troy fell in love and began their love story. They were happiest in warm weather, on sunny beaches, traveling, and near the water. They found plenty of reasons to laugh and make memories along the way. Their years together were filled with plenty of practical jokes, a beautiful love, and raising their four children. They were united in marriage on May 15, 2013.
Her personality was unforgettable, with her spitfire attitude, incredible sense of humor, and love for anything spooky. One of her favorite pastimes was driving around wearing Halloween masks all year round. She absolutely loved the sunshine, and her green thumb could be seen throughout the year, especially in the spring when she could plant flowers outdoors. She was also an incredible baker, to say the least—cookies, bars, candy, and countless other delicious treats. Her family always knew there was something special at her house.
Being a mom and grandma was one of the greatest joys of Trish’s life. She loved her children and grandchildren fiercely and was always there to make them laugh with a silly voice or song, a listening ear, or a little bit of wisdom. Her home was a place where they felt loved, welcomed, and cared for, and the memories they made together will be treasured for a lifetime.
Trish was strong-willed, absolutely gorgeous, and always knew how to make those around her laugh or feel comforted. She had a way of bringing joy into a room and making people feel loved simply by being herself.
Her story was so full—shorter than what was wanted, but blessed beyond words. Anyone who knew Trish understands the immense void her passing has left behind. Yet her legacy lives on through her beloved children and grandchildren, who carry so many of her characteristics, her humor, her strength, and her love with them.
Trish was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace “Mope” and Agnes Holmes; and her sister, Cathy Holmes.
Trish is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Troy Olson; children, Ashley (Joe) Perry, Willis (Jenelle) Werner, Derek (Samantha) Werner, and Juliana (Logan) Olson; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Eugene (Kim) Holmes, Anna (Mark) Coulter, and Marybeth “Tina” Holmes; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel in Hastings. Visitation will be held from 3–5 p.m. at the funeral home. A reception will follow the service.
