Rollin’ on the River – Levee Park events kick off for the summer at the Rotary Pavilion

Summer is charging in like a herd of stampeding elephants on the African Safari, and the temps are matching that climate perfectly for Hastings’s residents. The City of Hastings Parks and Recreation Department held its summer kickoff event Tuesday, June Eighth. The event featured a variety of different acts in the Rotary Pavilion that started with Aztec Dancers performing a cool display of dance, then a fire show followed up by live music from the Metro Gnomes.

Along with the Rotary Pavilion shows, there were inflatables for the kids, food trucks, and the Hastings Fire Department brought out a truck to hose event goers off in the sweltering heat. No worries, they were spraying the water safely in the air to let it fall like rain. Several hundred folks enjoyed the night along the river and the variety of activities for all.

Thursday the tenth was the first concert in the park featuring Ladies of the 80’s, a rockin’ group out of the Champlin, MN area. A musical tribute to that totally awesome decade, the 1980s! Their high energy show is very Las Vegas inspired featuring multiple outfit changes, beautiful dancers, humorous stage names and appearances of your favorite musical icons from the 80s.

Appearances were made by Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, and Dolly Parton, Michael Jackson, Tom Petty, Angus Young, Sonny and Cher, Tina Turner, Heart, Tiffany and many more for this fun filled flash back in time. The fast-paced show kept the audience wondering what was next.

Their vocals were on point, the dancers were spectacular and the instruments excellent. The timing of the costume changes flowed effortlessly and nearly 400 fans of all ages enjoyed the show. This was the perfect kick off to the summer music series brought to Hastings by the Ruth and George Doffing Charitable Fund.

Up next is the 70’s group called Funktion Junction on the 17th.
