Over $15,000 raised for Hastings First Responders

Posted

A community fundraiser aimed at supporting local first responders delivered a meaningful boost to both the Hastings Police Department and Hastings Fire Department this week, with each department receiving a donation check for $7,781 through the efforts of the Front Line Foundation and local organizers.
City officials shared details of the donation following a check presentation Friday, celebrating what they described as “an incredible day supporting our local heroes.”
The funds were raised during a March event organized in support of Hastings police officers and firefighters, drawing community members together for an afternoon centered on appreciation for first responders and their families.
According to the city, the Hastings Police Department plans to use its portion of the donation to purchase hearing protection equipment, dumbbells and weights for fitness training, an investigative computer, and tactical lights. The Hastings Fire Department will use its funds to purchase ballistic personal protective equipment, commonly referred to as ballistic PPE.
The donations come at a time when many public safety agencies continue balancing growing equipment needs with tight municipal budgets, making community-led fundraising efforts increasingly important for departments seeking specialized gear and wellness resources.
Organizers credited the success of the event to a broad network of volunteers, businesses, and supporters who helped coordinate and promote the fundraiser.
A special thank you was extended to Nicole Sindelar of Hastings Golf Club & Events, Tatia Nelson of The Busted Nut Bar & Grill, and Rachel Stoneberg of the Front Line Foundation for their work organizing the event and supporting the city’s first responders.
City officials noted that Stoneberg and the Front Line Foundation have played a major role in distributing funds to departments, promoting the annual event, and helping coordinate event-day operations.
The city stated:
“We truly appreciate everything they do to support our first responders.”
The event itself has quickly become an annual tradition in the Hastings area. Organizers Nicole Sindelar and Tatia Nelson have now coordinated the fundraiser for three consecutive years. This marked the second year the event directly supported Hastings police and fire personnel.
The very first fundraiser was organized in honor of the three Burnsville first responders who were killed in the line of duty in February 2024, an incident that deeply affected law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency personnel across Minnesota.
Since then, the event has evolved into a broader show of support for local departments while still carrying the spirit of honoring service and sacrifice.
Organizers say community involvement has been key to the fundraiser’s growth. Residents, local businesses, and supporters attended the March event to raise money and show appreciation for the work first responders perform every day.
The city praised the continued support from the community, emphasizing that police officers, firefighters, and their families benefit directly from the generosity shown by local residents.
In its message following the donation presentation, the city thanked everyone who participated in the fundraiser and acknowledged the behind-the-scenes work that helped make the event possible.
The city wrote:
“Thank you to everyone who continues to support our police officers, firefighters, and the families who serve alongside them. We couldn’t do this without our amazing community.”
One of the event’s central gathering places has been Hastings Golf Club & Events, which organizers say has become an important partner in hosting the fundraiser. According to the city, Sindelar has donated the event space each year, helping ensure proceeds raised can go directly toward supporting first responders and equipment purchases.
That local support has allowed organizers to continue expanding the fundraiser’s reach while maintaining a community-centered atmosphere.
For police officers, some of the purchased items are expected to support both officer safety and day-to-day investigative work. Hearing protection and tactical lights are standard tools frequently used in training and operational settings, while fitness equipment can assist officers in maintaining physical readiness.
The investigative computer will likely help support casework and evidence review, areas that increasingly rely on technology and digital systems.
For firefighters, ballistic PPE represents another layer of protection in an evolving public safety environment. Fire departments across the country have increasingly incorporated ballistic protection into emergency response planning, particularly for incidents involving violence or active threats where firefighters and paramedics may be asked to enter potentially dangerous scenes alongside law enforcement.
While the purchases themselves may seem practical and straightforward, organizers say the donations carry a deeper meaning for first responders who often see community support as a reminder that their work is valued.
The annual fundraiser has also become a way for residents to interact directly with local police officers and firefighters outside emergency situations, helping strengthen relationships between departments and the communities they serve.
Organizers are already looking ahead to next year’s event, which is scheduled for March 21, 2027, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Hastings Golf Club & Events.
City officials indicated planning is already underway, with organizers hoping to build on the momentum and support generated over the past several years.
As the event continues to grow, its mission remains simple, bringing the community together to support the men and women who respond when emergencies happen.
